Resumo Comparou-se por meio do teste de identidade de modelos estratégias de agrupamento de dados para o ajuste de modelos hipsométricos e volumétricos com o intuito de otimizá-los. A área de estudo tem 248,22 ha com plantio de Pinus oocarpa e Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, divididos em talhões com idades entre 10 e 16 anos. A área foi inventariada por amostragem utilizando o método de área fixa com 7 parcelas retangulares de 600 m2 distribuídas de forma sistemática em cada povoamento. Diferentes estratégias de agrupamento de dados foram comparadas, a fim de verificar se uma única equação (modelo reduzido) poderia representar diferentes fontes de variação, como parcelas, espécies e idades, em vez de uma equação para cada fonte de variação (modelo completo). Os modelos selecionados para aplicação nas diferentes estratégias de agrupamentos foram avaliados com base no erro padrão da estimativa (Syx%), coeficiente de determinação ajustado (R2 aj.) e análise gráfica dos resíduos. As equações ajustadas para cada estratégia foram submetidas ao teste de identidade de modelos. Constatou-se que em nível de parcela não deve ser utilizada uma equação hipsométrica única (modelo reduzido) para representar todas as parcelas de um inventário, mesmo considerando a espécie e/ou idade. Em relação à variável volume, foi observado, para as espécies Pinus oocarpa e Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, que uma única equação pode ser utilizada para estimar o volume total das duas espécies desde que estejam com a mesma idade, enquanto para idades diferentes recomenda-se o ajuste em nível de povoamento.

Abstract It was compared data grouping strategies by different models of identity test to fit height-diameter and volume models in order optimize them. The area under study has 248,22 ha with Pinus oocarpa and Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis stands, divided in plots among 10 and 16 years-old. This area was inventoried by fixed area sampling with 7 rectangular plots of 600 m2 distributed in a systematic in each stand. Different strategies for data grouping were compared, checking if only one equation (general model) could represent different sources of variation such as plots, species, and ages, instead of one equation to each source of variation (complete model). The selected models used in different grouping strategies were evaluated based on standard error of estimate (Syx%), adjusted coefficients of determination (R2 aj.) and graphical residues analysis. The fittied equations to each strategy were submitted to model identity test. It was found that related to plots should not be used a single height-diameter equation (general model) to represent all the plots in an inventory even if it is of the same species and/or age. In relation to volume it was observed for the species Pinus oocarpa and Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis that a single equation can be used to estimate the total volume of two species since at the same age, while for different ages it is recommended the fitting for stand level.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the performance of artificial neural networks (ANN) and support vector machines (SVM) in volumetric modeling in eucalyptus stands. Data from commercial plantations, located in four municipalities in the southern mesoregion of the state of Amapá, were used and were provided by a private company. Volumetric models established in the literature were adjusted and compared with the SVM and ANN techniques. Data were divided into 80% for training and 20% for model validation. The same dendometric variables used by the regression models (DBH and height) were used by the SVM and ANN. For training and generalization of the SVM, four configurations were used, formed from two error functions and two Kernel functions. For configuration, training, and generalization of the ANN, the NeuroForest-Volumetric software was used, in which network configurations such as Adaline (Adaptive Linear Element) were used; Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Radial Base Functions (RBF). The quality of the adjustments of the regression models, and of the methodologies using ANN and SVM, were evaluated using the correlation coefficient between the observed and estimated individual volumes (ryŷ), the root mean square error, expressed as a percentage of the mean (RMSE%), and graphical analysis of residues (Res%). Considering the results, SVM and ANN performed slightly better, compared to the traditional methodology, in individual volume estimates, demonstrating that they are techniques that are well suited for applications in the area of measurement and forest management.

Resumo Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o desempenho de redes neurais artificiais (RNA) e máquinas de vetor de suporte (MVS) na modelagem volumétrica em povoamentos de eucalipto. Utilizou-se dados oriundos de plantios comerciais não desbastados, localizados em quatro municípios na mesorregião sul do estado do Amapá e foram disponibilizados por uma empresa privada. Foram ajustados modelos volumétricos consagrados na literatura e comparados com a técnica de MVS e de RNA. Os dados foram divididos em 80% para treinamento e 20% para validação dos modelos, as mesmas variáveis dendrométricas utilizadas pelos modelos de regressão (dap e altura) foram utilizadas pelas MVS e RNA. Para o treinamento e generalização das MVS, foram utilizadas quatro configurações, formadas a partir de duas funções de erro e duas funções de Kernel. Para configuração, treinamento e generalização das RNA, foi utilizado o software NeuroForest - Volumetric, no qual foram utilizadas configurações de redes do tipo Adaline (Adaptive Linear Element); Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) e Funções de Base Radial (RBF). A qualidade dos ajustes dos modelos de regressão, e das metodologias utilizando RNA e MVS, foram avaliadas utilizando-se o coeficiente de correlação entre os volumes individuais observados e estimados (ryŷ), a raiz quadrada do erro médio, expresso em porcentagem da média (RMSE%), análise gráfica dos resíduos (Res%). Considerando os resultados, MVS e RNA obtiveram desempenho ligeiramente melhores, comparados à metodologia tradicional, nas estimativas de volume individual, demonstrando serem técnicas que se adequaram bem para aplicações na área de mensuração e manejo florestal.

Resumo O uso dos métodos de otimização como ferramenta de auxílio ao manejo florestal cresceu nas últimas décadas. No entanto, há a necessidade de entender como essas técnicas foram aplicadas ao manejo florestal no Brasil. Assim, este trabalho apresenta uma visão geral sobre o comportamento da ciência florestal brasileira nesse aspecto, indicando tendências e lacunas que podem servir de base para futuros estudos. Foram selecionados os periódicos de maior relevância acadêmica na categoria florestal a partir da base de dados Journal Citation Reports. Os artigos foram analisados em termos do banco de dados utilizado (se real ou teórico), gênero das espécies cultivadas, nível de planejamento (estratégico, tático ou operacional), modelo de planejamento, método utilizado para resolver o problema proposto (programação matemática clássica ou meta-heurísticas), tipo de função-objetivo e categoria de restrições. Como resultado, foram encontrados 44 artigos publicados no período de 1976 a 2019. Os tipos de dados que predominaram foram os reais nos últimos anos, o que indica uma aproximação da academia no âmbito empresarial. A espécies exóticas tiveram maior participação nos estudos que as nativas. O planejamento estratégico é mais abordado, seguido do tático e por último o operacional. Quanto aos métodos, observou-se uma tendência em se utilizar combinações entre métodos clássicos e heurísticas. A função-objetivo predominante foi a de maximizar a receita e a restrição envolvendo produção volumétrica. Portanto, foi possível identificar tendências e lacunas e analisar os resultados em uma visão crítica.

Abstract The use of optimization methods as tools to aid the forest management has grown in the recent decades. However, there is a need to understand how these techniques were applied to forest management in Brazil. Thus, this work presents an overview of the behavior of Brazilian forestry science in this aspect, indicating trends and gaps that can serve as bases for future studies. The most relevant academic journals were selected from the Journal Citation Reports database and the articles were analyzed in terms of the database used (whether real or theoretical), genus of species grown, level of planning (strategic, tactical or operational), planning model, method used to solve the proposed problem (classical mathematical programming or metaheuristics), type of objective function and category of restrictions. As a result, 44 articles published in the period from 1976 to 2019 were found. The types of data that predominated were the real ones in the recent years, which indicates an approximation of the academia in the business sphere. The exotic species had a greater participation in the studies than the native ones. Strategic planning is more approached, followed by tactical and finally operational. As for the methods, there was a tendency to use combinations between classic and heuristic methods. The objective function that was most applied was to maximize revenue and the restriction involving the volumetric production. Therefore, it was possible to identify trends and gaps and analyze the results in a critical view.

Resumo No presente estudo foram aplicados quatro algoritmos de aprendizado de máquina na tarefa de modelagem da relação hipsométrica de povoamentos de Pinus taeda L. em diferentes idades. Centenas de combinações de parâmetros foram testadas para os algoritmos k-vizinhos mais próximos, florestas aleatórias, máquinas de vetores de suporte e redes neurais artificiais. Para seleção do melhor modelo para cada algoritmo, utilizou-se o método de busca em grade combinada ao método de validação cruzada k-fold. Os modelos selecionados foram utilizados para predição da altura total de indivíduos pertencentes a um conjunto de dados independente, e os resultados foram comparados aos obtidos por modelos de regressão linear. Os modelos de aprendizado de máquina apresentaram indicadores estatísticos similares aos modelos de regressão linear, no entanto, tiveram dispersão de resíduos menos tendenciosa, principalmente na análise estratificada por povoamento. A máquina de vetores de suporte e a rede neural artificial foram os modelos mais satisfatórios em precisão e dispersão dos resíduos.

Abstract In the present study, four machine learning algorithms were applied in the task of modeling the height-diameter relationship of Pinus taeda L. stands at different ages. Hundreds of parameter combinations were tested for the k-nearest neighbors, random forests, support vector machines, and artificial neural networks algorithms. In order to select the best model for each algorithm, the grid search and the k-fold cross validation methods were applied. The selected models were used to predict the total height of individuals in an independent data set, and the results were compared to those obtained by linear regression models. The machine learning models presented similar statistical indicators to the linear regression models. However, they had less biased dispersion of residues, especially in the stratified analysis by age. The support vector machine and the artificial neural network were the most satisfactory models in precision and dispersion of residues.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to develop a mathematical model for the spatial forest planning of harvest activity scheduling. Thirty-eight (38) blocks were formed from stands aged 13 to 17 years considering a total area limit set to 350 hectares. The model was built in Excel ® spreadsheet and solved by CPLEX® optimization software using the Branch and bound method for the linear programming of problems with integer variables. The results of optimization are presented in the form of a map of spatial distribution of the selected blocks. The total harvested area was 5,989 hectares and the volume generated was 2,956,913 m3 in a planning horizon of five years. Higher results compared with those of traditional planning and efficiency to optimize forest harvesting proved to be a viable alternative to the inclusion of space and operational issues associated with forest harvesting.

ABSTRACT Defining the optimum points for installing of a cable logging system is a problem faced by forestry planners. This study evaluated the application of a mathematical programming model for optimal location of cable logging in wood extraction. The study was conducted in a forestry company located in Parana State, Brazil. We collected data during timber harvesting and developed mathematical models to define the optimal location of the cable logging considering the variables “cycle time” and “extraction distance”. The variable “cycle time” affected the definition of the optimal location of equipment resulted in a reduced number of installation points with the largest coverage area. The variable “distance extraction” negatively influenced the location, with an increased number of installation points with smaller coverage. The developed model was efficient, but needs to be improved in order to ensure greater accuracy in wood extraction over long distances.

RESUMO A melhor tomada de decisão é uma tarefa difícil no manejo florestal, pois envolve um grande número de variáveis de mercado e de produção. Simulou-se o crescimento e produção de Pinus taeda L. em sítios altamente produtivos, com objetivo de indicar regimes de desbaste e densidades de plantio que maximizam a produção de toras grossas (diâmetro da ponta fina >35 cm), bem como avaliá-los economicamente. O software OpTimber-LP para otimização de problemas florestais foi usado. As simulações envolveram quatro densidades de plantio (1.111; 1.600; 2.000; e 2.500 plantas/ha); três desbastes com diferentes pesos, frequências e idades de aplicação; e corte raso aos 25 anos. Essas combinações totalizaram em 2.916 regimes de manejo. VPLA foi calculado com variação de taxas de interesse e considerando custos de produção e retornos provenientes de desbastes e do corte raso. Os resultados indicaram maior produção de toras grossas em regimes com menores densidades de plantio. A intensidade de desbaste de 60% destacou-se por ter sido ideal para quase todos os processos, principalmente nas densidades de 2.000 e 2.500 plantas/ha. Essa intensidade também foi ideal para o primeiro desbaste, independentemente da densidade de plantas. A produção nos melhores regimes variou de 480 e 260 m3/ha, para as densidades de 1.111 e 2.500 plantas/ha, respectivamente. VPLA variou de ~1.300 a ~2.100 R$/ha. Como conclusão, regimes de manejo menos densos propiciaram maior produção de toras grossas, porém, menor em volume total; como consequência, o VPLA foi maior para os regimes mais densos, uma vez que a receita obtida pela produção de toras de alto valor não compensou a receita de toras mais finas (que também são mais baratas). Regimes com alta densidade podem fracassar com um único primeiro desbaste errado, enquanto regimes com menor densidade podem ter produção realmente prejudicada quando são sujeitos a consecutivos desbastes errados.

ABSTRACT The best decision-making is a difficult task in forest management because it involves a large number of market and production variables. We simulated the growth and yield of loblolly pine in high-quality sites, aiming to indicate thinning regimes and planting densities that maximize the production of large diameter logs (minor diameter >35 cm), as well as economically evaluating such regimes. We used the software OpTimber-LP for forest optimization problems. Simulations involved four planting densities (1,111; 1,600; 2,000; and 2,500 plants/ha); three thinnings with different weights, frequencies and ages of application; and clear cut at 25 years. Such combinations totalized in 2,916 simulated regimes. We computed ANPV assuming variations in interest rates, besides costs of production and returns resulting from thinnings and from clear cut. The findings indicated great productions of large diameter logs in regimes with low planting densities. Heavy thinnings (60% removal of trees) highlighted by being ideal to almost all regimes, mainly those ones with densities of 2,000 and 2,500 plants/ha. Heavy intensity also was ideal to the first thinning, regardless the planting density. The most productive regimes presented large diameter log volumes ranging from 480 to 260 m3/ha, for regimes with 1,111 and 2,500 plants/ha, respectively. ANPV ranged from ~1.300 to ~2.100 R$/ha. As conclusion, less dense regimes provide largest productions in large diameter log, but the lowest productions in total volume; as consequence, ANPV was larger in denser regimes, once the revenue obtained from high-value logs did not overcome that one obtained from finer (and consequently cheaper) logs. High-density regimes may produce less timber volume due to only one improper thinning, whereas low-density stands may have production really affected when are subjected to consecutive improper thinnings.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve por objetivo selecionar, por meio de técnicas da pesquisa operacional, regimes de manejo de Pinus taeda L. que maximizem a receita com a madeira produzida, considerando diferentes taxas de atratividade. Foi utilizado o software OpTimber-LP® para a otimização florestal, o qual realiza as simulações por meio do software SisPinus®. Os regimes foram compostos por diferentes combinações de sítios florestais, densidades de plantio, regimes de desbaste e idades para corte raso, totalizando 17.760 regimes por sítio. A produção de madeira foi quantificada e valorada mediante classes de sortimento. Custos de plantio, desbaste e colheita foram considerados. O Valor Presente Líquido Anualizado (VPLA) e a Taxa Interna de Retorno (TIR) de cada regime de manejo foram calculados. Como resultado, a densidade de 1.600 plantas por ha otimizou o VPLA para a maioria dos casos. Os regimes otimizados incluíram nenhum ou apenas um desbaste e forneceram VPLA de 2.753 e 158 reais por ha e TIR de 22,9% e 2,9%, para os sítios I e IV, respectivamente. Concluiu-se que o número ideal de desbastes é reduzido em sítios com qualidade inferior, e quanto menos produtivo for o sítio, mais tardio será o ano ideal para o corte raso. A taxa de atratividade é um parâmetro que contribui para a determinação de regimes de desbaste, pois quanto maior for essa taxa, maior deve ser o número de desbastes, bem como mais precoces devem ser suas aplicações.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to select, using operational research techniques, management regimes of Pinus taeda L. that maximize the revenue generated by the wood, considering different attractiveness rates. The OpTimber-LP® software, which performs the simulations using SisPinus® software, was used for forest optimization. The regimes consisted of different combinations of forest sites, planting densities, thinning regimes and clearcutting ages, totaling 17,760 regimes per site. Wood production was quantified and evaluated by assortment classes. Planting, thinning and harvesting costs were considered. The Annualized Net Present Value (ANPV) and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of each management regime were calculated. As a result, the density of 1,600 plants per ha optimized ANPV for most cases. Optimized regimes included no or only one thinning and provided ANPV of 2,753 and 158 BRL per ha and IRR of 22.9% and 2.9% for sites I and IV, respectively. It was concluded that the optimal number of thinning is reduced in lower quality sites, and the less productive the site, the later the optimal year for clearcutting. The attractiveness rate is a parameter that contributes to the selection of thinning regimes, because the larger the rate, the larger the number of thinning and the earlier they should be carried out.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivo utilizar o compartilhamento de parâmetros de modelos geoestatísticos aplicado aos estimadores de máxima verossimilhança para predizer os volumes por hectare em três fragmentos de Floresta Estacional Subtropical localizados em Santa Teresa - RS empregando a abordagem Borrow strenght. Os dados foram coletados em 56 unidades amostrais (U.A) de tamanho variável com aproximadamente 250 m2 em um total de 9 ha, distribuídas em um grid sistemático de 40 x 40 m, sendo medidas as variáveis dendrométricas dos indivíduos com DAP ≥ 10 cm próximas ao centro das unidades. Foram elaboradas duas abordagens para o conjunto de dados, sendo que a primeira considerou as áreas totalmente independentes entre si, subdivididas em dois tipos: ajuste ao modelo não espacial (NSM) e ajuste pelo método de máxima verossimilhança (MV) não compartilhado (ajuste individual). A segunda abordagem descreveu os ajustes dos modelos de máxima verossimilhança compartilhados em função do erro aleatório ou nugget, sendo: modelos sem nugget fixo (variabilidade entre as U.A) e com nugget fixo (variabilidade dentro das U.A), utilizando como correlação a função exponencial da família Matèrn. Em seguida, os modelos foram comparados pelo critério de informação de Akaike (AIC) e grau de dependência espacial para posterior krigagem e elaboração das superfícies de predição dos modelos selecionados. Foi observado que os modelos combinados para estimativa do volume foram superiores para os valores de AIC e grau de dependência espacial em relação aos ajustes para as áreas individuais. Entre os modelos compartilhados, observou-se que houve um ganho nas estimativas dos parâmetros utilizando o nugget fixo, que resultaram em uma correlação das amostras e grau de dependência espacial maior (AP = 88 m), em relação aos modelos compartilhado sem nugget fixo (AP = 75 e 66 m). O AIC mostrou-se eficiente, uma vez que comparou os diferentes níveis de ajustes propostos na metodologia do trabalho, selecionando um modelo com parcimônia e compatível com os padrões de distribuição espacial encontrados nas áreas. Sugere-se o uso de modelos compartilhados para dados de amostragem em diferentes áreas, com introdução da estimativa do erro intraparcela (nugget fixo) nas equações de MV, para aumentar a correlação entre as U.A, com avaliação conjunta do AIC somado ao grau de dependência espacial na estimativa de variáveis dendrométricas.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to use the share parameters of the geo-statistical models applied to maximum likelihood estimators to predict the volumes per hectare in three fragments of a Deciduous Forest located in Santa Teresa, RS state, employing the ‘Borrow Strength’ approach. Data were collected in 56 sampling units (S.U) of variable sizes with approximately 250 m2 for a total of nine ha, distributed in a systematic grid of 40 x 40 m. Dendrometric variables from individuals with DBH ≥ 10 cm near the center of the S.U. were measured. Two approaches to the data set were prepared, the first of which considering both areas entirely independent themselves, subdivided into two types: a fit to non-spatial model (NSM) and a fit to the maximum likelihood (ML) not shared (individual adjustment) model. The second approach described the adjustment of the shared as a function of random error or nugget, comprising models: a shared model without fixed nugget (variability between S.U) and a shared model with fixed nugget (variability within S.U) models, using a logarithmic function of M.L applied to the Matèrn family of exponential correlation model. Then, the models were compared using Akaike information criterion (AIC) and by degree of spatial dependence for subsequent preparation of both kriging and prediction surfaces of the selected models. It was observed that the combined volume models to estimate values were higher for the AIC values and spatial dependence with respect to the adjustments for the individual areas. Among the shared models, it was observed that there was a gain in the parameter estimates using the fixed nugget, which resulted in a higher correlation of samples and spatial dependence (AP = 88 m), than the shared models without the fixed nugget (AP = 75 and 66 m). The AIC was efficient because it compared the different levels of proposed adjustments to the methodology of the study, selecting a model with parsimony and compatible with the spatial distribution patterns found in the areas. The use of combined models for data sampling in different areas with the introduction of the error estimate intra-plot (fixed nugget) in the equations of MV can be suggested to increase the correlation between the S.U and combined evaluation of the AIC plus the degree of spatial dependence in estimating dendrometric variables.

RESUMO O objetivo deste texto foi avaliar estatisticamente o efeito de desbastes e da qualidade de sítio na área basal (G) e no volume total do fuste (v) e do sortimento de Pinus taeda. Os desbastes ocorreram entre 8 e 9 anos de idade, cortando uma em cinco linhas de plantio mais 66%, 54%, 42%, 30% e 19% de árvores do dossel inferior. Entre 3 e 4 anos pós-desbaste, foram mensurados diâmetros e cubadas as árvores, possibilitando calcular a G e os volumes. Estruturou-se um delineamento em blocos casualizados, adotando-se blocos e tratamentos como sítios e regimes de desbaste, respectivamente. O v foi modelado por parcela, possibilitando estimar o volume por sortimentos pelo software SISPINUS. Concluiu-se que a relação volumétrica entre tratamentos varia para árvores mais grossas. Entre blocos, reduz sua inclinação ao piorar a qualidade do sítio. A capacidade produtiva exerce mais efeito nas variáveis analisadas do que os desbastes variando em peso.

ABSTRACT An experiment in Pinus taeda stands was conducted aiming to evaluate the effect of thinnings and forest site quality on basal area (G), total volume, stem volume (v) and assortment of Pinus taeda. Thinnings occurred between 8 and 9 years old, where the fifth row plus 66%, 54%, 42%, 30% e 19% of the existing trees was cut. Thinnings were followed by measurement of diameters and along the stem to calculate its volume. An analysis of variance in randomized blocks was made adopting the sites as blocks and the mixed thinnings as treatments. Volumetric relation was modeled for the plots and from this, log assortments could be estimated using a software named SISPINUS. In conclusion, thinning affect the volumetric relation especially to larger trees, while its inclination curve reduces from richest sites to poorest sites. Sites exert greater effect than thinnings when considering basal area, total volume, boles volume and volume per assortment.

RESUMO As relações espaciais entre os talhões designados para a colheita são cruciais para o planejamento florestal, uma vez que estas relações afetam diretamente os impactos abientais decorrentes da colheita, bem como os aspectos logísticos destas operações. Nexte contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar o planejamento florestal otimizado de uma floresta formada por 236 talhões de Pinus taeda, Pinus elliottii e Eucalyptus dunnii incluindo restrições para formar blocos de colheita respeitando um limite mínimo de área. Duas abordagens foram utilizadas para a formação dos blocos de colheita. A primeira abordagem considerou a aplicação de restrições denominadas ring inequalities, propostas por Carvajal et al. (2013). A segunda abordagem foi baseada na modelagem de Rebain e McDill (2003), para a formação de áreas de floresta madura. A segunda abordagem utilizada. Ambas as abordagens foram capazes de gerar blocos de colheita respeitando as áreas mínimas determinadas, causando uma redução de 5.1% no cenário mais restritivo. A formulação baseda em Carvajal et al. (2013) se mostrou a melhor alternativa quando apenas restrições de área mínima são consideradas, devido ao número inferior de restrições e performance superior em termos do VPL gerado.

ABSTRACT The spatial relationships between forest stands scheduled for harvesting are crucial for forest planning, once they affect directly environmental impacts and logistic aspects related to this operation. In this context, the objective of this study was to perform the optimized forest planning of a Pinus taeda, Pinus elliottii and Eucalyptus dunnii forest, composed by 236 stands, including minimum area constraints. Two approaches were applied for clustering harvesting activities. The first approach considered the inclusion of a set of constraints so-called ring inequalities, proposed by Carvajal et al. (2013). The second approach was based on the formulation proposed by Rebain and McDill (2003) for the creation of old-growth forest areas. Both formulations were capable to generate harvesting blocks with minimum area requirements, causing a reduction up to 5.1% in the objective function for the most restrictive scenario. We conclude that the formulation based on Carvajal et al. (2013) is the best alternative when only minimum area constraints are considered, due to the inferior number of constraints and superior performance in terms of the NPV generated.

RESUMO: O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a evolução do afilamento dos fustes de árvores em povoamentos de Pinus taeda, utilizando dados de análise de tronco de 126 e 120 árvores amostradas, respectivamente, em plantios estabelecidos nos estados do Paraná e de Santa Catarina. O polinômio de potências inteiras e fracionárias foi ajustado para estimativa dos diâmetros sem casca ao longo do tronco e usado para construção de curvas de afilamento por classe de idade. O teste de identidade de modelos foi aplicado para verificar a mudança na forma do tronco das árvores. Foi analisada também, a evolução do fator de forma natural e artificial das árvores. As curvas construídas a partir das funções de afilamento ajustadas e os fatores de forma mostram que os troncos se tornam mais cilíndricos com o aumento da idade. O teste de identidade indicou que, em geral, as curvas de afilamento diferem estatisticamente entre si. Isso evidencia que a estratificação dos dados em classes de idades nos ajustes de funções de afilamento pode produzir estimativas mais acuradas do sortimento.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate the evolution of stem taper of trees in Pinus taedastands using stem analysis data from 126 and 120 trees sampled from established stands in Paraná and Santa Catarina States, respectively. The integer and fractional power polynomial was fitted to estimate diameters inside bark along the stem and was used to construct taper curves by age class. The model identity test was applied to verify the change in stem form of trees. The evolution of natural and artificial form factors in the trees was also analyzed. The curves constructed from the fitted taper functions and form factors showed that the stems become more cylindrical with increasing age; the identity test indicated that, in general, the taper curves statistically differ between themselves. This showed that stratifying the data into age classes for fitting in taper functions can produce more accurate assortment estimates.

RESUMO Foi conduzido um experimento em povoamentos de Pinus taeda com objetivo de avaliar o efeito do desbaste e da qualidade do sítio na relação hipsométrica. Efetuou-se uma análise de variância em blocos casualizados, em que os blocos corresponderam aos sítios e os tratamentos, aos desbastes mistos, combinando os métodos sistemático e seletivo baixo, cortando uma a cada cinco linhas de plantio mais 66%, 54%, 42%, 30% e 19% de árvores do dossel inferior. Os desbastes ocorreram entre 8 e 9 anos de idade e, aos 12 anos, foram medidos o diâmetro e a altura das árvores remanescentes. A relação hipsométrica foi modelada e aplicado o teste de identidade de modelos de Graybill, para reduzir o número de modelos similares selecionados no mesmo bloco. Houve diferença estatística entre tratamentos e blocos. Concluiu-se que a hipsometria varia pouco entre tratamentos, mas reduz sua inclinação quando piora a qualidade do sítio. Equações hipsométricas iguais podem ser empregadas em diferentes tratamentos.

ABSTRACT An experiment in pine (Pinus taeda) stands was conducted aiming to evaluate the thinning and site quality effect on the height-diameter relationship. We applied an analysis of variance in randomized blocks, with blocks representing the sites and treatments the mixed thinning, in which systematic and selective modalities were combined, harvesting every fifth row plus 66%, 54%, 42%, 30% and 19% of the lower canopy trees. Thinnings occurred at 8 and 9 years old interval, and diameters and heights of the trees were measured at age 12. We modeled height-diameter relationship and applied the Graybill test for reducing the number of similar selected models in a same block. We found statistical differences between treatments and blocks. As conclusion, height-diameter relationship varies less between treatments but the curve slope tends to reduce in lower quality sites. Same height-diameter equations can be used in different treatments.

RESUMO: Com o aumento nos custos dos combustíveis, é fundamental atuar em medidas que envolvam o planejamento e o controle nas atividades com consumo elevado. Dessa forma, objetivou-se modelar o consumo de combustível da carreta utilizada no transporte rodoviário florestal. Para isso, dados de duração, distância percorrida, velocidade média, consumo de combustível e carga transportada pelos veículos nas operações das viagens carregado, vazio e ciclo total foram coletados nas regiões de Campo do Tenente (planta florestal) a Piên (planta industrial) no estado do Paraná. A correlação linear de Pearson foi utilizada para determinar a relação entre as variáveis, ao passo que o procedimento Stepwise foi empregado para compor as equações de regressão na estimativa do consumo de combustível. As maiores correlações foram observadas entre a distância percorrida, carga líquida e velocidade média com o consumo de combustível; ocorrendo, também, correlações significativas entre a distância percorrida e a velocidade média. As equações ajustadas foram estatisticamente adequadas para estimar o consumo de combustível em função da distância percorrida, da carga líquida transportada, da velocidade média e da duração nas viagens carregado, vazio e ciclo total de transporte rodoviário florestal.

ABSTRACT: As fuel costs increase, it is essential to take measures involving planning and control on any activities with high consumption. Thus, the main aim of this work was modeling the fuel consumption of forest road transportation by truck. We collected data about time, driving distance, average speed, fuel consumption and the load carried by the vehicle for loaded trips, unloaded trips, and the total cycle of forest transport in regions between the municipality of Campo do Tenente (forest site) and Piên (factory) located in Paraná state, Brazil. The Pearson's correlation was used to determine the relationship between variables, while the Stepwise procedure was used to generate regression equations to estimate fuel consumption. The highest correlations were found between fuel consumption and driving distance, average speed and liquid weight of the load; also, there was a significant correlation between driving distance and average speed. Adjusted equations were statistically adequate to estimate fuel consumption based on driving distance, liquid weight of the load, average speed and duration time for loaded trips, unloaded trips and the total forest road transportation cycle.

RESUMO Nas plantações florestais industriais, a distribuição espacial das unidades de manejo agendadas para colheita influencia o custo de produção madeireira e o consumo de recursos não renováveis, devido às questões relacionadas com a logística de transporte. Neste contexto, o objetivo do estudo foi formular modelos de Programação Linear Inteira (PLI) por meio da aplicação do algoritmo de otimização em redes Floyd-Warshall na geração de rotas de produção madeireira, minimizando o custo de produção resultante das atividades de colheita e manutenção de estradas. Em seguida, foram simulados cenários considerando distintas idades mínimas de corte de talhões de Pinus spp. e Eucalyptus spp. O horizonte de tempo foi de 5 anos com periodicidade anual. A área de estudo foi 23.330 hectares de florestas, localizados no estado do Paraná (sul do Brasil). Nos comparamos os cenários simulados de acordo com os seguintes parâmetros indicadores: rendimento da colheita, rede de estradas utilizada e custo unitário de produção. A diminuição da idade mínima de corte reduz a produtividade média das unidades de manejo agendadas para colheita e, por outro lado, requer menos estradas edificadas, o que consequentemente diminui o custo unitário de produção. As soluções obtidas pelo uso dos modelos PLI estiveram menos de 0,1% distantes do ótimo global.

ABSTRACT In industrial forest plantations, the spatial distribution of management units for harvest scheduling influences the timber production cost and the non-renewable resources consumption, due to issues related to transport logistic. In this context, this research aimed to formulate Integer Linear Programming (ILP) by means of the application of Floyd-Warshall network optimization algorithm to generate timber production routes, minimizing the production costs resulting from harvest activities and forest road maintenance. Then, scenarios were simulated considering different minimal harvest ages for Pinus spp. and Eucalyptus spp. stands. The planning horizon was five years with annual periodicity. The study area was 23,330 hectares of forests, located in Paraná state (southern Brazil). We compared the simulated scenarios according to the following parameter indicators: harvest income, building road network and the production unit cost. The decreasing of the minimal harvest age reduces the mean production of management units scheduled to be harvested, in other hand, it requires fewer roads to be built, and consequently increases the production unit cost. The solutions obtained by using ILP models presented an optimality gap lower than 0.1%.
